Two major studies conducted in Europe, EPIC and PREDIMED, showed that people who followed a Mediterranean diet based on fruits and vegetables, dry beans, whole grains, and healthy fats such as Omega 3 and Olive Oil, aged at a lower pace and lived longer. These studies have also shown that this diet can lower hypertension, or high blood pressure, and cholesterol.
Fruits and Vegetables Reduce the Risk of Obesity in the Long Run
Scientist at the Miguel Hernandez University, Elche, Spain, have carried a study for ten years that has demonstrated that in the medium and long term, a high consumption of fruits and vegetables can reduce the risk of gaining weight and suffer obesity. The study was published in “Obesity” magazine.
Jesús Vioque, one of the researchers in the study, explained that until very recently it was thought that a high ingest of fats was the main cause of obesity. This study however, shows that a low consumption of fruits and vegetables could be as damaging, o even more, than a high ingest of other types of food.

But remember that if you don’t practice healthy habits through your life, you will end up paying a high price as you get older. That’s why you have to start now and not wait until your doctor diagnoses an illness. Eat right, be physically active and pay a regular visit to your doctor to check your cholesterol and blood glucose levels as well as your blood pressure.
